Vikesland Space Mission Successful

-- Vikeslandic Broadcasting Service

On August 16th, 2008 Micronational history was made when the launch of the AWAY 35 mission by JP AEROSPACE carried the Vikeslandic national flag to the edge of space.

This is Historical, as far as is known no other micronation has accomplished this feat to date.

The AWAY mission was launched from the desert floor by Black Rock Nevada. The launch vehicle is carried to the edge of the stratosphere by large balloons. The vehicle itself carries video cameras as well as still cameras and has various scientific instruments that collect data during the mission. As well small instruments known as PONGSATS are aboard and carry out a wide variety of functions when kissing the vacuum of space.

The Vikeslandic Department of Aeronautics and Space helped sponsor the AWAY 35 mission and in turn had the flag taken up to the final frontier.

Prince Christopher I of Vikesland said, "Let the Micronational space race begin! I invite all other small nations to do the same or go beyond this historical accomplishment."

JP Aerospace is dubbed as "Americas other space program" and is indeed a great partner for those who are interested in becoming involved or sponsoring an AWAY mission. The whole mission was documented on video and our national flag is clearly seen on the craft as it is prepared for launch on the desert floor.
Please visit the JP Aerospace website to learn more about their space program.

Governor-General Issues Statement on South Ossetia

-- Governor-General Press Release

The way in which the situation in South Ossetia has deteriorated is cause for profound concern. We call for the following actions in the name of Peace:

We urge an immediate ceasefire in the fighting in South Ossetia and for a resumption of direct dialogue between all parties.

As many international observers as possible should be sent to the epicentre of the crisis so that the situation could be assessed adequately.

Recognition of the right of the peoples involved to self identification and governance.

Mauritania Placed on the Unsafe and to be Avoided List

-- Governor-General's Press Relase

We join the African Union, South Africa, Nigeria, the European Commission, and the United States in condemning the military coup d'etat in Mauritania. We strongly and firmly oppose any attempts to change governments through unconstitutional means.

We call upon General Mohamed Ould Abdelazi and the other members of his junta to restore the legitimate government under president Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, or in the alternative to make good their promise to hold free, fair, and transparent elections immediately.

Mauritania will placed on the nations that are unsafe and to be avoid list until the situation there stabilizes. British West Floridian Subjects of the Crown currently in Mauritania are advised to remain in their homes through the week-end pending notifications from one of the Crown Consulates.

Marquess of Mobile Contributes Share of Profits to Royal Floridian Mail

The Most Honourable Bo Register, Marquess of Mobile, Baron Von Servers of Fayette has contributed 4 Shillings, 8 pence to the Royal Floridian Mail through the House of Lords Select Committee on Stationery and Stamps.

The Governor-General provided a brief description of the transaction: “I recently received a bit over a pound from a successful joint effort with the Governor of Independent Long Island. The joint effort is international in scale, and allows us to showcase our technical abilities and infrastructural support mechanisms.“

“While the joint venture did not in anyway involve my position within the government, it is only fitting that I, as a member of the House of Lords Select Committee on Stamps & Stationery support its efforts to continue the Queen and Landscapes series. I have determined that by giving one fifth of the proceeds from this international joint infrastructure project to our own internal projects I can help my nation without causing undue hardships for my family or those in the Barony and Marquessate under my care.”

The contribution of 4 shillings 8 pence is the largest single contribution to the Royal Mail's Cinderella Stamp project in the history of this Dominion.
